Travis Walton

Forestry worker
Subject of the most corroborated alien abduction claim in history

Travis Walton (born February 10, 1953) is an American forestry worker from Snowflake, Arizona, who became the subject of one of the most widely investigated alleged alien abduction cases in history. On the evening of November 5, 1975, while working with a six-man logging crew in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in eastern Arizona, Walton reportedly approached a hovering disc-shaped craft, was struck by a beam of light, and disappeared for five days.

Walton's six co-workers, who fled the scene in panic after seeing him struck by the beam, reported his disappearance to authorities. An extensive search found no trace of Walton. He reappeared on November 10, 1975 in a confused and disoriented state near Heber, Arizona. All six co-workers subsequently passed polygraph examinations regarding their account of the initial sighting. Walton himself passed polygraph tests regarding his account of being aboard a craft, though one early test produced inconclusive results.

Walton's account, published in the book The Walton Experience (1978), later retitled Fire in the Sky, describes being aboard a spacecraft tended by humanoid beings, eventually meeting human-appearing figures who placed him in a room before he woke up on a highway. His case was investigated by APRO (Aerial Phenomena Research Organization) and numerous independent investigators. The case was dramatized in the 1993 film Fire in the Sky, starring D.B. Sweeney as Walton.

The Walton case is notable for the corroborating testimony of six adult witnesses to the initial event, all of whom passed polygraph examination. Skeptics have challenged the polygraph results, pointed to inconsistencies between Walton's book account and the film dramatization, and noted the financial incentives created by book and film deals. Walton has maintained his account consistently for nearly five decades.

Editorial Note: The Walton case is distinguished by six corroborating adult witnesses who passed polygraph examination regarding the initial event. The abduction account itself depends entirely on Walton's own testimony. Skeptical and pro-UAP analyses of this case are both extensive.
